Political Journey

" In the 2009 Elections - as an independent candidate from Sirsa Assembly Segment - Shri. Gopal Kanda defeated candidates from the established parties like the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Congress (I), Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) and BJP to not only register a resounding victory but also to establish the fact that the public supports those who work for the welfare of the people over those who do arrogant and divisive politics."

Sh. Gopal Kanda is a well recognized name in the social and political spheres of Haryana. Although his political journey as an MLA and a Minister began only in 2009, however very few people are aware of the fact that his family has been a party of the Indian Political System since before Independence. In the first post Independence Elections in 1952, Gopal Kanda Ji’s father Sh. Murlidhar Kanda Advocate was a candidate for the Bharatiya Jan Sangh from Sirsa Assembly segment. In those times, challenging the Congress – a party born in the cusp of the Independence movement was considered an uphill task. Most political aspirants then searched for opportunities within the Congress instead of taking up the mantle of opposition politics. However, Sh. Murlidhar Kanda Advocate was motivated by the ideology of the Jan Sangh to such an extent that putting aside his personal gains, he attached himself to this new party that was trying to prepare fertile ground to sow the seeds of Nationalist Ideology in the Politics of New India.

The Young Lawyer, Sh. Murlidhar Kanda considered politics a social responsibility. His politics revolved on the ideals of public welfare. His father’s thoughts towards Public Good have somehow been ingrained over time in the conscience of Sh. Gopal Kanda, a result of which is the ‘Haryana Lokhit Party’. This party is a revolutionary attempt to bring about a positive and pleasurable change in the political landscape of Haryana.

In the 2009 Elections - as an independent candidate from Sirsa Assembly Segment - Shri. Gopal Kanda defeated candidates from the established parties like the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Congress (I), Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) and BJP to not only register a resounding victory but also to establish the fact that the public supports those who work for the welfare of the people over those who do arrogant and divisive politics. As an independent candidate, Sh. Gopal Kanda played a very important role in the formation of the Bhupendra Singh Hudda led Congress Govt. in Haryana which would not have been possible without his timely intervention. The Chief Minister recognizing Sh. Gopal Kanda’s importance gave him the responsibility of heading the Home Ministry and two other important departments. Sh. Gopal Kanda realized that being in government gave a political leader the opportunity to fulfill large public causes while utilizing political support with a development oriented focus.  In the Sirsa Area, having successfully executed numerous public works in the previous years with the guidance and blessings of his Guru Brahmaleen Tara Baba, Sh. Gopal Kanda realized that political power helps one voice the concerns of the people in a more directed way. Thus in order to achieve his dreams of a better life for the public of Haryana, Sh. Gopal Kanda has established the Haryana Lokhit Party.
